How to study EISM

First of all, understand that EISM is not a very tuff subject, and with proper guidance and planning it can be handled easily.

Conceptual study and understanding along with regular revision is a must. Without Conceptual clarity, it would be tuff for you to recall the contents in the EISM subject. With Conceptual understanding, one can easily understand the Theory questions and solve them easily.

SM is considered scoring and easy while the EIS is difficult to learn and retain.

Do not miss the obvious –The ICAI study material is the go-to place for you. All that needs to be learned is mentioned thoroughly in the same.

Do not procrastinate – Cramming at the last minute means lesser retention and more panic.

Do not ignore the diagrams and flowcharts – Top scorers vouch for graphical presentation of answers. This is one of the best ways to ensure great marks, especially in EIS.

From which chapter to start preparing

Every single chapter has its equal weightage in EISM so you cant skip anyone but you must devote most of your time In Enterprise Information systems most scoring and the easiest topic is Flowchart and Decision Table. A question covering 8 marks is generally seen in the paper. Most of the time the question arrives in the exam paper from the ICAI material either the study material or the practice manual.

Correct order to attempt the paper

Its not really necessary to attempt full 100 marks paper. Even an 80 to 85 marks paper can give you good marks. Id say theory papers should be attempted as much as you can but this does not mean that you are going to write anything or everything you know. Quality matters rather than quantity.

Be confident in what you write. Do not get confused or try to confuse the examiner. And sometimes papers are set too long that youd not be able to attempt the whole of it. In that case, questions to which you know the answers really well and you have the confidence to fetch full or nearly full marks should be attempted.

So its not about attempting the full examination paper but delivering the best you know, such that it hits the examiner right and you score well.

Common Mistakes / Tips

Pay attention to headings and subheadings –These denote the core of the content. Remembering concepts heading-wise will help you structure your answers better

  1. Make your answers sharp and rich in content.
  2. Include as many diagrams and tables in EIS when you write; this conveys more in less time.
  3. Giving relevant examples from current business scenarios in the subject of strategic management will convey the depth of your understanding. Always keep real-life examples in mind while preparing.
  4. Avoid generic explanations and be technical in your answer. Use of appropriate terms while answering conveys your knowledge and leaves a good impression on the examiner.
  5. RTPs and MTPs help a great deal. They are a rich source of potential questions.

Do not ignore the diagrams and flowcharts – Top scorers vouch for graphical presentation of answers. This is one of the best ways to ensure great marks, especially in EIS.

The problem generally faced by the students is lack of revision which makes them blank in the exam even after studying a lot,  so revise it daily.

Command on the language matters a lot, especially in EIS and SM. Presentation must be good enough to get the marks. Practice writing answers at home and match them with the institute material or suggested answers.

Allotment of time between EIS and SM

Time has a major role, both in preparation for CA Intermediate exam as well as during the examination. Starting early is a major advantage, as you can cover more ground than others. Keeping in mind that EIS would need more time for preparation, dividing your time in a 40-60 ratio between Strategic Management and EIS would help.

Spend more time in each chapter at the beginning of your preparation. As the countdown starts, revise already touched topics and spend maximum time revising towards the end, perfecting what you already know.
