Exemption Calculator for Chartered Accountant

The tool is designed in accordance with ICAI Guidelines

STEP 1 - Choose Level

STEP 2 - Choose Group

A CA exemption calculator is a digital tool made for CA students to calculate assumed exemptions for any ICAI CA paper. Students can calculate exemptions directly on the basis of their marks. Here, if a student scores an aggregate of 60 marks or above in a single group, he is eligible for a checking exemption. However, if he scores below 50 marks when aggregated or below 40 in any one paper, he fails the exemption paper and has to appear again in those exams. This exemption allows students to go without reattempting those papers for the next three exam attempts and makes it possible to calculate their marks, and according to their marks, they can evaluate their performance. It is a manual or spreadsheet-based process where students can put in their marks for each paper (four per group, 100 marks each).

How the CA Exemption Calculator is used?

Here is a step-by-step process to calculate the exemptions-

CA Inter has two groups; each group contains three papers with 100 marks, per group has 300 marks.

Now check your marks. If your marks are 60 when aggregated or above in total, you can check for exemption even if the group is not cleared.

To illustrate-

Let you appear for Group 1 in January 2025

  • Advanced Accounting: 65 marks
  • Corporate & Other Laws: 45 marks
  • Taxation: 38 marks
  • Total: 148/300

Result- you are failed in Group 1 because there is less marks in taxation exam and overall are only 148 which is below 150 marks.

Exemption- Advanced Accounting paper is exempted as it contains more than 60 marks. Now for the next attempt you can exempted this paper and you have to attempt remaining two papers and require atleast 40 marks in each and aggregate of 100+ to qualify group 1.

Benefits of using the Exemption Calculator

The exemption calculator instantly highlights papers containing more than 60 marks in exams that are eligible for exemption. It reduces manual checking of marks against ICAI rules and clarifies the group that a student fails, which brings confirmation of exemption despite showing high scores in exams. The best ever thing about using an exemption calculator is that it helps students to tell about non-exemption papers for the next attempt and gives confirmation on which paper students need to reappear.

Students can schedule study time table with the use of an exemption calculator. By using this calculator, it lesser the chance of mistakes in interpreting ICAI exemption rules. Students can plan attempts throughout several exam cycles. They can analyse their result from various attempts to improve uniformity.

CA exemption calculator helps students in identifying subjects where they excel the exam (more than 60 marks) and create real life goals for the remaining papers. Students may feel encouraged when exempted paper boosts confidence in students by showing excellent performance of them.

Students feel less stress about results and reappearing for the exam as it clarifies the exemption paper and allows them to focus on that exam more. When seeing exemptions, it dedicates students and encourages them to continue their practice, making it easy for them to choose what to study next.

Exemption lowers the number of papers for the next cycles and, as a result, reduces the workload for the students. By using an exemption calculator, students will not get confused about ICAI’s complex rules.
